Founded on the dream of Olympic athlete Les Mills Senior, the Les Mills fitness brand has become internationally successful while still proudly New Zealand owned and operated. Now 50 years later, Les Mills have grown to 12 clubs nationwide and more than 60,000 members.
Completed in early 2015 in what was old office space, the design and build posed several challenges for us. In particular, the new club located between other building tenants, needed to be acoustically sound without compromising on the high-quality sound and visuals synonymous with the Les Mills experience. To achieve this, speaker placement was carefully thought-out to ensure even audio coverage and minimal disturbance to building neighbours.
Design and install an audio visual solution for Les Mills Lambton Quay, a vibrant, upmarket studio-style club located in the heart of Wellington’s CBD.
The audio solution, complete with theatre quality sound, is comprised of BSS Soundweb audio processing, JBL speakers and AKG microphones. A music service is used to entertain and motivate members.
Another key requirement of the design was that the AV integrate seamlessly with the building management system. With the help of a Crestron Control Processor this was achieved, with air conditioning, lighting, sound and vison all controlled via 10″ Crestron touch panel. With the club spread over three levels, a solution to distribute various audio and video sources was also required. Crestron DigitalMedia (DM) was chosen for its reliability and flexibility and allows the club to easily manage content displayed on large screens and music sources throughout the space.
Environment control is also at the Instructors fingertips in the RPM studio. A specifically designed user-interface enables Instructors to easily control lighting and temperature as well as sound and volume – all from their RPM bike.
ONELAN digital signage is also utilised. Class timetables are easily managed and updated with the help of a Onelan NTB and displayed in the club’s reception.
Tight timeframes for project completion were also a factor. Having worked closely with Les Mills on several other large fit-outs, TenFour were able to work with other contractors to ensure the project was delivered on time and of an exceptional standard.
We continue to work closely with Les Mills, providing after-sales support to the Lambton Quay club.
